It never ceases to amaze us that we don’t have more cases in the CCMA for prejudicial behaviour towards candidates

We are not sure why the process of doing internal interviews first before putting out a position to the general public or agencies seems to have come to a halt.

It is logical to advertise internally and hopefully follow a full interviewing and testing process with current staff. In fact one should know who you have lined up should a resignation occur... lately we have had candidates who go through up to 3 interviews, PI profiling etc. to be told there is an internal applicant and days later that internal who can’t possibly have been through a full process is appointed! The original candidate has a case...

You could say its sour grapes on the part of an agency to complain about this but we have to question if the right people are being appointed... in fact we know they are not because in 2 instances we have had the same vacancy not 3 months later because the internal was not actually right.

Recruiting is an expensive exercise, whether it costs you time filtering responses form adverts you run your selves, whether you pay a professional agency or whether you simply promote without thought.
Sometimes saving the recruitment fee isn’t the most effective way to fill a position

And at least let the agency know which process you are following so the candidates are kept informed. Many company’s don’t realise the negative effect it has on their brand when candidates are messed around or not kept informed, or are interviewed 3 times and then left hanging...

Just an added thought... The POPI act prevents information of any member of the public being kept on any database for longer than 6 months unless you are actively engaging with them.. Many candidates are coming back to us saying they haven’t contacted X company in at a least 6 months yet clients claim to have their cvs “active”... please check your databases. Unless you can prove you have interacted with a candidate within the time frame could be contravening the Popi act and you could be seen as prejudicing an applicant’s chances of a position.
