A letter to candidates !!
So you want a new job, or maybe your first one !
...So you create a cv ...can Hotelstaff please give you some sage advise :-

Firstly remove all the graphics, its expensive for an agency or an employee to print pretty swirls etc and wastes time removing. It is also childish as this is supposed to be a professional document.

We do need a photograph, a smart one, in clothes that you would attend an interview in, not your matric gown with the boyfriend on your arm. And certainly not your speedo... A clear head and shoulders with your hair cut or combed neatly, "selfies" taken at arms' length of your nose are not great either... nor are posed pouting shots ! Party photos are definitely not suitable. A photo in your uniform is ideal.

The cv needs to give either the agency or the prospective employer an idea of who you are and at what level of an organisation you are currently employed .so we can best judge what your next career move is. So please don't fight us when we ask for information ... we know what a receptionist does but we can assure you the receptionist at a 500 bedroomed city hotel has a completely different job to a receptionist in a 10 roomed lodge. In fact a receptionist in one 500 roomed hotel may well have completely different duties to the 500 roomed hotel down the road !! Do not send us your job description ,as given to you on employment tell us what YOU do.

We also know many of the places in which you work but a short description of the place helps some clients who may not know it ..It tells us that you know your place of work well too.

There are many candidates who have worked in a place for 5+ years but they can't tell us the banqueting numbers the hotel caters for, or what kind of restaurant the hotel has !! Some receptionists don't know how many rooms the hotel has !

We need basic info..ID numbers, your address, so we can help get you a job relatively close to home. whether or not you will relocate etc. tell prospective employers what notice you have to give. Do you have a car or a license ..its easy to assume you don't if you haven't told us. The more info you send on your initial cv the quicker we can submit you and the greater chance you have of being considered for the position.

If we ask for photos of your cookery work please don't send us off to drop boxes etc ..send us photos by email..we will work on the CVs that are easiest not the flashy photo albums.. and by the way ,when we contact you we are actively working on your cv NOW... .when you don't reply for days on end your cv gets pushed to the bottom of the pile again and you could miss out on the job you applied for .If you are seriously on the job market. work with us.

Do not give us the names of the friends you worked with for references, we need to speak to your bosses or HR. If we ask you to send an update don't keep sending the same document without new information on it.
If perchance you had a problem in your last job, tell us upfront ..we may still be able to help you find a job..lie to us and your CV gets shredded. We work with hundreds of cvs daily . make yours the one we want to work on ...
Your CV is your personal advert... think about creating it ... does it sell you for the job you are applying for?

Have the manners to contact the client /agent with an accompanying letter ... don't just send cvs from your phone into cyber space, without explaining what your career expectations are and what possible job you are apply for ..At Hotelstaff we delete these applications because they are RUDE and its shows something about your manners or lack of them.
