Fixed Term Contracts

We understand the economy is very tight at the moment, but we are slightly alarmed at the number of clients who seek candidates, go through a whole process of recruitment and then the client offers a fixed term contract, having never mentioned this previously.

Fixed term contracts are NOT probationary tools!

To stem this we are thinking of invoicing a full years' fee further to the probationary fee. Technically you are recruiting for a new fulltime job...

The other thing is that good solid candidates won't leave good positions for a fixed term contract!! ( even with the vague possibility of a job turning permanent ) so you are left with the pool of currently unemployed people to select from... you limit yourself from finding the best possible person for the job.

A properly written probationary clause in your letter of offer, followed by proper management of the candidate's first few months is a perfectly acceptable way to ensure you have made the right selection.

When a fixed term contract is over and you haven't properly terminated the candidate (and by the way its not their duty to remind you the end is nigh) they become employees by default and subject to the full regulations of the basic conditions of employment and you will get a full invoice from any agency concerned.

If paying the full fee is an issue speak to us about spreading the cost. We would rather help you find the best calibre staff and come to financial arrangements than struggle and make no fee !

This candidate has had a very successful career in the hospitality and general industries. She is a very good organiser She was a successful banqueting co-ordinator previously.
Has handled administration purchasing and general offices duties for a large golf management company. She has administered sales of golf items and many different things in this position.
She is a known for attention to detail and her ability to take responsibility for jobs that are not being seen to properly. She is being retrenched in April and needs to find employment. She types well and files very accurately.

Sous Chef / Head Chef - R 10 000 live in (Neg) Open to Area - REF; CFNP

After completing his Matric, this candidate joined an upmarket Country Club as a Junior Chef, and worked himself up from a junior Chef position to a Sous Chef position within two years. He then worked in the UK for two years where he was employed at a country hotel and restaurant in the position of Sous Chef. On returning to South Africa, he took up employment at a five star property where he worked on a one year contract as Sous Chef. He also worked on an American cruise liner as a Sous Chef for a year, thereafter joining a three star hotel in the position of Sous Chef, and then working himself up to Head Chef. Unfortunately he was retrenched and is currently seeking employment anywhere within SA in a live-in position. Executive Housekeeper - R 17 000 live in - Mpum/KZN/Limpopo - REF; CFML

This AA candidate comes extremely highly recommended by her previous employer, who describes her as honest, reliable and incredibly hardworking. After completing her Matric she joined a four star property as a Housekeeping Attendant and over the years worked herself up to the position of Assistant Executive Housekeeper, whilst completing numerous in-house courses. She was then offered an Exec Housekeeper position at a three star hotel, and later moved over to a four star resort with extensive rooms and chalets in the position of Executive Housekeeper for the Chalets. She currently holds the position of Executive Housekeeper at a four star lodge but feels she needs a more challenging position. Her referee praises her work ethics and describes her as an honest person who was loved by staff and management alike. She said that given the opportunity she would jump at the chance of re-employing her and highly recommended her for future employment without hesitation. Her referee added that she has excellent organisational and staff management skills. This well qualified BEE candidate has a proven track record which justifies her experience and dedication to her craft. She is old school. Her kitchen runs like clockwork, her quality of food and service are exceptional, her kitchen hygiene, stock management and rotation are above and beyond the norm. She is a hands on chef who leads by example. She has been required to manage large groups of trainee chefs as part of her brigade. This has been challenging for her but these students have benefited from a disciplined Executive Chef who expects nothing but the best.
