Considering the problems we have been having in SA concerning racism lately... this may not be the time some of you will want to read this... particularly smaller businesses who think they don’t have to meet legal requirements.

Your clients don’t care what colour your Restaurant manager / Executive Chef / Receptionist / Housekeeper / Operations manager / Financial controller is. They want to know that whoever is dealing with them is competent.

Many AA candidates are far more highly qualified these days and much more worldly wise. They are modern young Degree Graduates, or simply well experienced people who speak eloquently and who have far more passion than some white candidates we interview.

AA candidates will go the ends of the earth for a job. They are aware of the hours required, and despite it often being very difficult to get transport will make a plan, and are considerably more reliable.

We have many reliable competent AA candidates, with exceptional references, whose cvs we send out but who never get the courtesy of an interview... a young white candidate with half the experience will be selected for interview instead... A case in point is an AA candidate who has worked for almost 5 years, internationally as a chef in 2 award winning restaurants but his cv isn’t even acknowledged ..2 weeks later we send the cv of a young WHITE graduate who had literally only in-service training ...he gets interviewed immediately and offered the job... because he didn’t have any experience he isn’t coping... but he met the brief because he is white! and we are expected to Guarantee placements on this basis !!
